The district of Kassel is situated in the middle of Germany. It is both responsible administrative authority as well as policy and decision maker. The 29 towns and municipalities in the district are home to around 235.000 people. There is a wide range of cultural heritages sites in the district. To strengthen the knowledge of people living in the district about the local history, the district built up a system of “Eco-Paths” (www.ecopfade.de). These paths give the opportunity to walk a short roundtrip (not more than 8 kilometers) and to learn about the history of the region by small billboards that summon the respective topic, by using informal education.
